On October 30th, the Northern CA chapter participated in the Halloween Howl dragonboat race at Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA.
This was a casual & fun race put on by the Renegades, one of the bay area dragonboat teams.
The APCA Dragons (our team name) won our co-ed and all women race, and more importantly, everyone had a blast.
After the race was over, all the teams got together for a potluck party.
There were tons of food, and a lot of hungry people to eat it all.
This year, our team consisted of some veterans who have paddled with us in previous years and some newcomers.
Some team members came as far as Sacramento, which is about an hour and a half away from the practice and race locations.
Everyone enjoyed it so much that we are now in the planning stages of starting our own year round team.
Check out the
video
of our practice at the Berkeley Marina and

on race day with our team sporting the custom-designed APCA Dragons shirt.

With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and because breast cancer is a disease that affects women of all backgrounds,
APCA volunteers worked to raise awareness as part of the Meet & Greet outreach at the AT&T Bothell, WA offices.
With support from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, volunteers distributed educational materials and pink ribbons to everyone who visited the event.
All donations collected at the event went to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
